Blessing our home during a remodel + painting wood trim
In 2016, we were blessed to find our home. We purchased a condo and since then, we have had a dream to remodel it. This is the first photo of us in front of our place.
Bennett and I love to dream in our marriage. To dream is defined as a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal. There is no rule of dreams having to be big. Aspirations can be small. Through saving and planning, dreams of any kind are possible. We are thankful for Jesus, our steadfast foundation, for guiding us as we dream. As our dream of remodeling our place became a reality, we wanted to do something special.
Our remodeling consists of adding in laminate flooring, a few new doors, and painting the walls, door frames and trim white. We decided to shower our home with God’s word and lyrics from our wedding songs. We used the back of our freshly painted trim to do so. I created a reel on this, click here to watch it.
Below are the bible verses and lyrics we used. I have also included the process of painting trim with links to all the supplies you need.
Bible verses we placed on our Living and Dining area trim
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3: 24-25
All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. Psalms 25:10
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; James 1:19
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:3-4
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Luke 15:6
Our Bedroom
We chose lyrics from two of our wedding songs and one bible verse for our bedroom.
Gracious Savior, Grant your blessing to this husband and wife
That it peace they live together in your love throughout their life
Christ defend them from the tempter and all that would destroy
Loves foundation that you have laid here and its threshold paved with joy
You are my vision, O King of my heart
Nothing else satisfies, only You Lord
You are my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Your presence my light
2nd Bedroom
This is our guest bedroom and in God’s timing, it will be our child’s bedroom. One important thing we want to teach our children is to love their neighbor because it truly is God’s greatest commandment. That is why we picked Mark 12:31. In addition to this bible verse, we chose lyrics from one of our wedding songs.
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:31
Savior, like a shepherd lead us, Much we need you tender care
If you are interested in painting wood trim white, here are the steps we followed.
Painting wood trim
From my experience with painting trim, I learned that it takes patience. It can be a long process especially with the wait time between coats and touching up areas after finishing all the steps.
Since we decided to paint all of our trim white, we painted the trim in batches over a course of a couple weeks. You can get all the materials you need below except for primer and paint through amazon.
1. Pry off your trim. We had to pry off our trim because we installed laminate flooring. However, I would still recommend doing this either way. It saves you from hurting your knees while painting your baseboard trim. After prying off your trim, set down drop cloths.
2. Clean your trim (I used water and a lint free rag. You can use a cleaner especially if there is any grime or dirt that is hard to get off with only water) and use a wood filler to fill any holes and small cracks.
3. If your wood trim has a gloss to it, apply a liquid sand deglosser instead of sanding. This will remove the gloss finish and save a lot of time on sanding. Deglossers with a water-based formula allows for easier cleanup. Follow the wait time instructions on the back of the bottle. I applied the deglosser with a stripping pad.
4. Paint one coat of stain blocking prime with 2’’ angle brush. It is important to allow the paint to cure according to the directions on the can. If your wood finish is dark, I recommend applying a second coat. I learned that it's best to place something under the trim so it doesn't stick to the drop cloth.
5. Once dry, sand the top of the trim and any spots that need to be smoothed out with a sanding sponge.
6. Paint two coats of white with a 2’’ angle brush. Allow the paint to cure.
7. Repeat step 3 as needed
